Carroll’s debut album, Waitin’ in the Country, shot straight to #1 on Billboard’s top country albums chart and produced two Top 5 singles – “Alyssa Lies” and “Livin’ Our Love Song.” Country music fans and music peers alike sat up and took notice of the singer’s raw talent and uniquely gifted songwriting skills, which also captured the attention of major media such as Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Reader’s Digest, USA Today and Billboard Magazine, who named him “Top New Country Artist of 2007.”
Carroll beat the much talked about “sophomore slump” with the release of his second album, Growing Up Is Getting Old. The first single was the Top 10 hit “Where I’m From,” marking his fourth consecutive song to reach the Top 20. The second tune from the album and his current chart-climber, “Hurry Home,” is a heart- wrenching tale about a father missing his estranged daughter, which immediately resonated with Carroll, not just because he’s a devoted father of four, but also because his family endured a similar experience when his Aunt ran away at a young age.
Originally from Houston , Texas , Carroll moved to North Carolina as a young child and joined a band as a teen-ager, rapidly making a name for himself playing "little cinder-block honky-tonks" in the Raleigh-Durham area. He was an unlikely candidate for the clubs, as he was not allowed to listen to secular music growing up, but through friends and later at his job in a motor shop, Carroll immersed himself in country music and began paying his dues. He soon met Don Gehman (Hootie and the Blowfish, John Mellencamp), who would prove to be instrumental in making Nashville take notice. Gehman has since produced both of his albums.
Since hitting the country music scene, Carroll has been fortunate enough to take part in some of the biggest tours around including Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Trace Adkins. With that kind of exposure, Carroll has perfected his stage show, winning over thousands of fans across the country.
“I try to make every show count, no matter how long we're on stage – whether we're opening or headlining," says Carroll. "My band and I try to do everything we can to make each and every concert the best show ever, and to live up to people’s expectations. That's really important to me because I want to be doing this for a long, long time. I’m a lucky guy who’s just living my dream, one city at a time.”
