[New recording for this CD]
THIS IS THE CD WE HAVE ALL BEEN
WAITING FOR. THE PRODUCTION IS
IMPECCABLE AND BILLY RAY IS IN
THE BEST VOICE OF HIS CAREER.
THIS SHOULD FINALLY LAY TO
REST THE GHOST OF "ACHY
BREAKY." FOR ALL THOSE IDIOTS
WHO POINT TO MILEY AND SAY
SHE IS A BIGGER STAR, I HAVE
ONLY ONE THING TO SAY...WHERE
DO YOU THINK SHE GOT HER
GENES AND ENCOURAGEMENT. AS
WE SAW FROM DANCING WITH THE
STARS, BILLY RAY IS COURAGEOUS
AND SO HE IS ON THIS CD AND
WHAT IS MORE THAT COURAGE
HAS MADE A FIVE STAR RELEASE.
I HAVE BEEN A TRAVIS TRITT
ADMIRER FROM THE BEGINNING. I
LIKED HIS EDGY TAKE ON
COUNTRY MUSIC BUT SAD TO SAY
WITH THIS CD HE HAS GIVEN UP HIS
MEMBERSHIP OF THE COUNTRY
CLUB.

I HEAR THE CD DESCRIBED AS
CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY. THAT
IS A LOAD OF NONSENSE. LISTEN
TO BIG & RICH OR LUKE BRYAN OR
BRAD PAISLEY FOR "NOW"
COUNTRY. NOW, I DON'T BLAME
TRAVIS WHO IS IN FINE VOICE BUT I
DO BLAME RANDY JACKSON WHO
SEEMS TO HAVE THE POLICY OF
PUTTING EVERY INSTRUMENT INTO
THE MIX.

RANDY, REMEMBER THE PHRASE,
LESS IS MORE. TRAVIS, PICK UP
YOUR BANJO, SIT DOWN WITH
MARTY AND EARL AND GO BACK
TO THE DRAWING BOARD. COME
BACK TO THE COUNTRY CLUB, WE
MISS YOU!!
MCA HAVE JUMPED IN WITH THIS
GREATEST HITS CD AHEAD OF BIG
MACHINE RELEASING TRISHA'S
DEBUT CD FOR HER NEW LABEL.
THIS IS A FINE REVISIT 0F GROWN
UP SONGS WRITTEN BY REAL
GROWN UP SONGWRITERS WHO
HAVE LIVED LIFE AND SUNG BY
ONE OF THE FINEST FEMALE
VOICES IN POPULAR MUSIC. NO
TEENAGE LAMENTS NEED APPLY
HERE.

Sarah came to public notice with
her song "Stupid Boy" via the
Keith Urban cover. OK. I first saw
her at CRS and was not impressed
at all.
However, I wanted to hear her in a
controlled environment and so I
sat in my car and listened to this
CD. I checked out te writing credits
and it was impressive. Bob DiPiero,
Craig Wiseman, Gary Burr, Victoria
Shaw and of course Sarah, herself.
That should have been enough.
Production by Dann and Craig
should have put it up there
but......it didn't.
First of all, I can only hope that  the
CD is remixed because there is
just too much in the mix that needs
to be jettisoned. Also, I own up that
Sarah's little girl voice started to
grate. Finally, I hope that Lyric
Street change the cover artwork
because the photographs and
design are just awful!!

With so much talent on board, I
really hoped that I would like this
CD but I don't.
A solid CD from Kenny on which
travels from pure Country with his
duet with George Strait
("Shiftwork) to out and out Country
Rock with his duet with Eagles
alumnus, Joe Walsh of Dwight
Yoakam's "Wild Ride." For me the
stand outs are Bill Anderson-Jon
Randall's "Demons, " David Lee
Murphy's "Just Not Today" and the
finely crafted Casey
Beathard-Chris Wallin song, "Don't
Blink."

This could be Kenny's best CD to
date!!
This CD can be divided into two
distinct elements, Country and
Pop. The stand outs are Reba's
duet with Ronnie Dunn on the self
penned "Does The Wind Still Blow
in Oklahoma?;" the Carole King
duet, "Everyday People," an
homage to those who went to New
Orleans post Katrina to renew the
city; "Every Other Weekend" with
Kenny Chesney which must be a
future #1; the Reba-Vinnie duet,
"These Broken Hearts" and the
John Wiggins-Jon Randall future
classic, "Break Each Other's
Hearts Again," on which Reba is
joined by Don Henley. However,
the one song that will garner
airplay is a cri de coeur for all the
wives who have husbands stuck in
Iraq, "Sleeping With The
Telephone" on which she is joined
by Faith Hill.

I've always liked Bubba and so this
six-tracker is like getting a little
gem. However, isn't it time that the
majors realized that they still have
a winner here and forget the Pop
Parading as Country and Rock
Parading as Country and sign a
true stylist?
I love Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38
Special. There is any honesty
about their music. So why do
VanZant have to pretend that they
are Country? Why the justification
of My Kind Of Country. Be honest
guys, it's Country Rock or Southern
Rock...it ain't Country; your kind or
anyone's kind. Did LS or .38 ever
justify their music by calling it my
kind of rock? Of course not.

As to this CD, as Southern Rock,
it's average. As Country, it's not.
even that.
I am a big Cerrito admirer and I
delight in calling him my amigo.
Perhaps not Country in the purist
sense, he is never the less one of
the best entertainers period. His
use of English and Spanish
harkens back to Johnny Rodriguez,
Rick Trevino and Freddy Fender
but yet, he makes it sound like it
was his idea. He certainly makes it
sound fresh. This is a CD that
needs to be in every collection.

Marty Stuart can look back on this CD
in years to come and say 'Yes, I was
touched my an angel.' This is
perfection and it must be a Grammy
contender. It seems hard to credit that
this is Porter's first release in years. I
could come up with superlatives out
the wazoo and each would be apt.
Damn, that man writes great songs!!!
Listening to this CD, I wondered how
many of the current crop of Nashville (I
won't say Country) singers and fans
have even heard of Buck or for that
matter the impact of the Bakersfield
sound. Well for the uneducated, Buck
along with Merle and Wynn Stewart
represented everything that is true and
honest about Country music. This CD
from Buck's most fervent acolyte is a
treasure without compare. Dwight is no
copyist; he is his own man and his
tribute is not him doing an impression
of Buck. It is a homage without
sycophancy. Just as Buck was his own
man who took no prisoners and Dwight
is equally a rebel.
