OK this isn't really Country. It is in the grand tradition that brought forth Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special and other Southern Rockers. However, what sets this group and this CD apart are the other influences that surface and most of these influences are hard rock. Influences such as Led Zep, Black Crowes, Allman Brothers and AC/DC. This is not a CD for the weak at heart or the weak in the knees. However, I can see it find favor with the New Outlaws that followed in the wake of Hank, Jr. and Waylon.

I believe that Easton Corbin could be real Country music's savior. This is one of the best CDs that I have heard this year. No take that back. It IS the best Country CD I have heard in an age. Very wisely Easton has contributed only two songs to the mix. The rest are written by seasoned writers including producer Carson Chamberlain. And talking of Carson. He has produced a minor masterpiece. It is not overstated and doesn't blow your head away. Now to young Easton. I truly believe that he could be the inheritor of the mantle has been worn by the likes of Conway Twitty and George Strait. Vocally, he reminds me of the great Gene Watson. This is my CD of the month.

When I think about the Muzik Mafia, I am reminded of the story of Icarus flying too near to the sun. I am also reminded of the first wave of rock'n'roll. When it was over, it was followed by anemic performers like Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Much the same has happened following the meteoric rise to the limelight of Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich. They have been followed by a bunch of wimpy singers, both male and female without an ounce of the same musical talent that made the Muzik Mafia priceless. Listening to Gretchen's Great Hits package, I realize that she was and still is one of the finest female singers to have emerged in the last decade. She sings with power when necessary that is unmatched and she sings ballads with depth that those that followed in her wake can only dream about. What also makes one aware while listening to this collection is how good a songwriter she is. Definitely my CD of the month.

Zane Williams earned his bones winning the 2008 “Lennon Award” winner in John Lennon Song Contest and being named Merlefest Chris Austin Song Contest winner in both “Country” and “General” categories. This young man is Country to his boots. Proving yet again that Texas born singer/songwriters have something special. "99 Bottles" is going to be a classic in every bar in the Western world. Radney Foster's production is impeccable. My only beef is with the mixing on the drums which need to be further back in the mix. But that aside this is an excellent CD with not a duff track. My favorite apart from "99 Bottles" is "I Am What I Am." A CD of the Month.

I really can't say this CD blew me away. The songs are so-so and the production very formulaic. I'm sure Country radio will love it but for me it never gets above ordinary.

OK this isn't Country music when compared to the likes of Merle Haggard, Gene Watson etc. But it is one of the best Pop albums I have heard in a while. Oh, there is some Country in there but it really doesn't matter because it is what it is and as I have said it is an excellent Pop record. In fact, there are some potentially classic Pop songs such as "Hello World," "Something 'Bout A Woman" and the delicious "Ready To Love Again." A very enjoyable sophomore CD.
