(02/01/2010)  Pinecastle Shuts Down

Dear artists, distributors and friends,

Given recent events related to my father’s health and the current business
environment, we find it necessary to cease operation of Pinecastle Records
effective February 1, 2010.

Artists and distributors will be able to purchase Pinecastle product through
Music Shed, the retail/wholesale outlet started by my father and myself more
than 22 years ago.  Music Shed will continue to operate from our current
location in Columbus, NC and can be reached at 828-894-2446.

We will soon begin exploring how to best preserve the vast catalog Tom, the
artists and talented staff of Pinecastle have amassed over the 20-year history
of the label.

Tom will be moving to a skilled nursing facility, close to our family, and in the
near future we hope to visit with our many old friends at shows and festivals.

Sincerely,

Cort Riggs

Class Act Entertainment announces exclusive representation of newly formed
bluegrass supergroup The Boxcars

Who are The Boxcars?

Adam Steffey, Ron Stewart, John R. Bowman,
Keith Garrett and Harold Nixon

With collective stints with Alison Krauss & Union Station (Adam Steffey, John
Bowman), J.D. Crowe & The New South (Ron Stewart, John Bowman, Harold
Nixon), Blue Moon Rising (Keith Garrett and Harold Nixon), The Isaacs (John
Bowman) and most recently The Dan Tyminski Band (Steffey and Stewart), this
quintet starts out with an impressive rap sheet.  The group will feature Steffey on
mandolin, Stewart on banjo, Bowman on fiddle, Harold Nixon on bass and Keith
Garrett on guitar. With multiple award winning instrumentalists in the group,
expect Stewart to lay down the banjo for the fiddle occasionally, and Bowman to
pick up on the guitar during occasional numbers.  It's a rare treat to have several
strong lead vocalists in the same group, and The Boxcars will benefit from
dynamic vocal performances by Garrett, Bowman, Stewart, and Steffey's distinctive
baritone. The group will draw from a wealth of original material as both Garrett and
Stewart are strong songwriters

"Ron and I had been talking about this for some time", comments Steffey. "We got
together with several configurations and landed on one that really clicks.   Keith
Garrett is such a powerhouse vocalist, and I've known John Bowman since we
were kids, and have played a lot of music together.

Ron Stewart adds, "Adam and I had talked about picking together for a while, and
we knew Harold Nixon was our first choice for bassman, and when John and
Keith came on board, it was magic from the first note! I'm as excited about this
band as anything I've ever done, both musically and personally, and I can't wait to
get in the studio and on the road!"
Pete Wernick's 2010 Bluegrass Jam Camps!

Pete Werick teaches jam campers Jam Camps are geared to "closet pickers"
of all bluegrass instruments. Got new instrument as a gift? Resolving to dust off
your old one this year and get into in making music? Jam Camp could be the
perfect complement.

Each camp is a multi-day immersion in music, with hands-on instruction as
students play in small groups. Pete & Joan show inexperienced players how to fit
into bluegrass jam sessions and develop confidence in making music together.
Campers are required only to be able to change smoothly between a few simple
chords.

For experienced jammers, Pete's offering two intermediate level jam camp
sessions this year: (1) an intermediate track at the North Carolina camp; and (2)
an intermediate/band skills camp in Colorado. Topics include band
dynamics/backup, ear skills, musicianship, harmony singing, practice techniques,
performing skills, breakout sessions for instrument instruction, etc.

some really wonderful and supportive people." (a recent Jam Camper)
